Reimagined global operations for a mass media brand

Problem​

With major cuts to its global workforce and operating budgets, the company needed a streamlined approach to how its digital content division operated globally with smaller teams and less money.

Solution

I created a multi-part strategic approach, including a new structure for digital platforms, processes for the creation, localization, and distribution of digital content to teams around the world, and sourcing third-party vendors to facilitate the new ways of working.

Results

The new strategic approach allowed the company to continue to engage its audiences around the world in effective and innovative ways on digital platforms while reducing its annual operational spend by millions of dollars.

Rebuilt a fast-growing agency as Fractional Chief of Staff

Problem​

The CEO of a communications agency was working crazy hours on client work and building her brand, all while taking on all of the operational needs of her rapidly-growing business. Her current business structure wasn't sustainable, and she needed a solution to continue to drive growth while finding more efficient ways of working. 

Solution

As a Fractional Chief of Staff, I acted as the CEO's right-hand partner, helping her restructure her agency and business strategy to prepare for continued growth. In this role, I helped devise new staffing plans, client engagement scopes, and operational and financial processes to create efficiencies and allow the CEO to focus on producing great work.

Results

By engaging me as her Chief of Staff, the CEO was able to offload all of the daily operational tasks at her agency and focus on what she does best: telling positive stories for her clients. Her working hours dropped by 25% and her agency was able to sign additional clients and hire more staff to account for growth.

Uncovered millions of dollars in annual savings for a retail food startup

Problem​

With new executive management on board, a $50M retail food startup needed to understand why its value perception was so poor with customers. Through a deep-dive evaluation of thousands of pieces of raw sales data and consumer insights, I uncovered a huge problem: the company's sampling culture was costing them millions of dollars per year, driving negative sentiment on social media, and not paying off with return visits or increased cart size.

Solution

While the original sampling strategy was great in theory, it had gone unchecked and abused for years. After consulting with leaders across the company, I devised a new approach which included a streamlined discounting strategy with the goal of increasing basket sizes and enticing new customers, a new operational structure for planning and executing offers, and a measurement and accountability plan to ensure the new strategy was staying on track.

Results

The new approach saved the company more than $2M (4% of total sales) in its first year. With the addition of an integrated marketing campaign to promote the brand, brand perception, consideration, and, most importantly, sales all achieved double-digit increases within 6 months.

Raised millions of dollars in funding for multiple seed and Series A startups

Problem​

Several startup founders and executive teams in the food, tech, and entertainment spaces were having trouble raising capital from investors. Even with great products (some with product-market fit), positive revenue trajectories, and world-class teams, their stories weren't resonating. 

Solution

I jumped in to retell their stories and rebuild their pitch decks to make their stories resonate more deeply with investors. With my background as an agency strategist, I was able to make their pitch deck stories cohesive, easy-to-follow, and no-brainers for investors to fund their next phases of growth. 

Results

Every startup founder I have worked with to create a pitch deck has been at a complete roadblock, hearing "no" after "no" from individual and institutional investors. After I revamped their stories and pitch decks, they've all completed their funding rounds, from a few hundred thousand to multi-million dollar raises.

Helped a leading manufacturer launch a new CPG division

Problem​

The president of the new CPG division of a leading commodity manufacturer needed to create a 3-year business plan, but he wanted his entire new executive team to formulate the plan (instead of him creating a plan and telling them what to do) and take individual ownership of the success of this new venture. 

Solution

The president hired me to create a strategic blueprint for the company and facilitate a two-day workshop with the executive team to guide them in the creation of their new division. With a third-party, unbiased point of view, I guided the team through exercises to define their own paths and goals while collectively creating the roadmap to achieve their 3-year business goals.

Results

The workshops - and ultimately the strategic plan - successfully brought the executive team members together to collectively create the future for their business. By the end of the engagement, the team had their individual and group OKRs and a business plan to take to corporate management showing how they were going to disrupt their industry.
